Nociceptive : Caused due to damage to body tissues Stimulation of peripheral nociceptors in the skin, joint and muscle e.g. Arthritic pain, Visceral Pain.

Neuropathic : Caused due to damage to the nervous system Absence of a continuous nociceptive input e.g. Sciatica, Post-herpetic Pain.

Peripheral Neuralagia : PNS association e.g. post-herpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy.

Central Neuralgia: CNS association e.g. post-stroke pain, and post- spinal cord injury pain.
